On 11 November, Australians pause to remember the courage, service and sacrifice of those who have worn the uniform, and those who stand beside them.
For Soldier On, Remembrance Day is not just a day of reflection; it is a reminder of our ongoing responsibility to support veterans and their families every day of the year.
Soldier On CEO Paul Singer says Remembrance Day calls us to action as much as it calls us to remember.
‘Take a moment to reflect on the service and sacrifice made by those who have worn the uniform and those who stand beside them,’ Paul says. ‘As I said in a speech at a recent breakfast event, remembrance calls us to responsibility. It asks us: what does honouring service mean in 2025 and beyond?’
United in purpose
At Soldier On, Paul says it means ‘continuing to work together – united in purpose, committed to impact, and with a clear focus on meeting the needs of veterans and their families’.
Reflecting on his own time in the Royal Australian Navy, Paul says the shared experiences of service shape a bond that endures long after leaving the Defence Force.
‘Those memories and experiences stay with you forever,’ he says. ‘Most importantly, it’s the shared bond you have with those who served alongside you – people who just get it. You’re all motivated by a simple purpose: to do whatever is asked of you in order to defend our nation and our national interests. The relationships formed through that are powerful and lasting.’
Community and understanding
Paul acknowledges that returning to civilian life can bring challenges. The transition from service to society isn’t always straightforward – and that’s where community and understanding make a difference.
Through its health and wellbeing services, employment and education programs, and social connection activities, Soldier On continues to walk beside veterans and families, helping them build fulfilling, connected lives beyond their service.
As the nation pauses for the minute’s silence at 11 am, Soldier On stands with all who serve – past and present – in gratitude, unity and enduring remembrance.
‘Remembrance is not an annual moment,’ Paul says. ‘It’s a daily commitment. Lest we forget.’
