Veterans’ support organisation Soldier On has launched its 2026 Tax Time Appeal, calling on Australians to help veterans and military families facing isolation, uncertainty and the lasting impacts of service.
Until 21 May, donations to the appeal will be matched dollar for dollar thanks to a generous philanthropic supporter, with $75,000 in matched funding available to help raise up to $150,000.
The campaign shares the story of Luisa, who supported her former partner through the difficult transition from the Army following injury before eventually reaching out to Soldier On herself for support.
Even after their relationship ended, the impacts of service continued to affect her life, leaving her struggling with self-doubt, employment challenges and uncertainty about the future.
‘I don’t know where I would have gone next if Soldier On hadn’t been there,’ Luisa said.
Through Soldier On, Luisa received practical employment guidance, mentoring and connection with people who understood the realities and long-lasting impacts of military life on veterans and families.
Step by step, she began rebuilding her confidence and sense of direction.
‘Having someone check in, encourage me, and remind me what I’m capable of made all the difference,’ she said.
Enabling access to support
Soldier On CEO Paul Singer said the appeal highlights the importance of ensuring veterans and families can access support when they need it most.
‘For many veterans and families, the transition out of service can be incredibly challenging,’ he said.
‘When service ends, routine, identity and connection can disappear almost overnight, and too many people experience these challenges in silence. This appeal is about making sure veterans and families know they are not alone, and that support is available to help them rebuild confidence, purpose and hope for the future.’
Funds raised through the appeal will help provide employment support, mentoring, education opportunities and wellbeing services for veterans and families across Australia.
