Volunteering @ Soldier On: A new way for volunteers to support those who served

Soldier On launches a national volunteer recruitment drive to strengthen support for veterans

Soldier On has renewed its national volunteer program, offering clearer and more flexible volunteer opportunities for Australians who want to support those who have served. The program provides a coordinated national framework that strengthens community connection and improves outcomes for veterans and their families. The announcement forms part of Soldier On’s national volunteer recruitment drive, aimed at attracting Australians who want to play a practical role in supporting the veteran community.

Soldier On CEO Paul Singer said the renewed approach reflects the organisation’s commitment to expanding community involvement in veteran wellbeing.

‘Our refreshed approach to this important national program gives volunteers a defined and supported way to strengthen community connection for veterans,’ Mr Singer said. ‘When roles are clear and volunteers are set up for success, the whole community benefits.’

Find a role that’s right for you

The Volunteering @ Soldier On program offers a range of structured volunteer roles, including social connection activities, administrative and operational support, community fundraising, event assistance and project-based opportunities. Roles are designed to suit different skills, interests and levels of availability, and no prior experience with the veteran community is required. All volunteers receive induction training and ongoing support to ensure a safe and meaningful experience.

Volunteering with Soldier On offers a practical way to support the Defence community, yet many volunteers find it also gives something back to them. Volunteer Narelle Rusk said the experience had a deeper impact than she anticipated.

‘I volunteered to help my brother and his brothers-in-arms. What I didn’t expect was how much Soldier On would help me find strength, purpose, and healing of my own,’ she said.

The program highlights Soldier On’s commitment to:

  • providing meaningful, structured volunteer opportunities
  • offering flexible roles suited to different skills and availability
  • ensuring induction training and ongoing support for volunteers
  • strengthening community connection for veterans and families
  • welcoming volunteers from all backgrounds

‘Together with our volunteers, we can strengthen communities and improve outcomes for those who have served,’ Mr Singer said.

Soldier On is now inviting expressions of interest from people who want to help create better lives for veterans and their families through purposeful community engagement.
