New Career and Education Hub supporting veterans to navigate life after service

Soldier On has launched a new Career and Education Hub – a key initiative as part of its new Career and Education Program designed to support Australian veterans, current serving members, and their families as they navigate life beyond service.

The Hub empowers individuals to create their own personalised career readiness journey, helping them build the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to pursue meaningful employment or education pathways.

It also addresses a common challenge faced by those leaving the Australian Defence Force (ADF). While careers in service are clearly structured, transitioning to civilian life often requires people to redefine their direction, translate their skills and make new decisions about work and education.

Making access to resources even easier

Soldier On CEO Paul Singer said the Career and Education Hub was created to bring that support together in one place.

‘Leaving the ADF can mean stepping away from a clearly defined career path,’ Mr Singer said.

‘The Hub provides practical support and connections so people can make informed decisions about what comes next.’

Through the Hub, participants can upskill, join mentoring programs, discover veteran-supportive education providers, access resources to help transition through the job-hunting process, or hear from other veterans who have already been through the process.

Participants are supported by dedicated Career and Education Support Officers, who work one-on-one to help identify goals, explore pathways and navigate the transition to civilian employment or further study.

Shared knowledge and support

Mentoring is a central part of the offering, with flexible options including short-form micro-mentoring conversations and Soldier On’s structured 18-week mentoring program, which pairs participants with experienced industry professionals.

Education support is also available, including guidance on further study, connections to education providers and access to subsidised and free courses where available, as well as information on scholarships, short courses and recognition of prior learning pathways.

Participants can also access the Jobs and Opportunities Board which connects Soldier On participants with veteran-supportive employers. Participants can view and apply directly to these roles and receive pre-employment support from the team before submitting an application.

One participant said the Hub has made it easier to engage with the support available.

‘The Hub is easy to use and helps me keep track of what I’m working through. The checklists are practical, and the interview resources and links have been really useful.’

A member of Soldier On’s Career and Education Support team said the Hub is strengthening how support is delivered.

‘It aims to empower participants on their journey by providing them with a one-stop destination that enables them to access resources at any time, while we focus on more tailored support. It’s something we use regularly, and it continues to strengthen how we support employment and education outcomes.’

Mr Singer said supporting transition was about more than securing a job.

‘It’s about helping people build a pathway that suits their skills, interests and goals,’ he said.

Soldier On continues to work with employers and education providers across Australia to support veterans and their families in achieving their employment and education goals.

Veterans, current serving members and their families can learn more about the Career and Education Hub through Soldier On.

Access to the dedicated Career and Education Hub is available to registered Soldier On participants only. For general information about Soldier On’s employment support, visit: https://soldieron.org.au/supporting-you/employment
