Welcome to Skills Lab, a Soldier On career readiness support program for teens & young adults.

Skills Lab has been designed especially for Defence and ex-Defence high school students aged 16+, recognising the unique needs of young adults from Defence families.

Skills Lab offers insights into various industries and their career opportunities. Additionally, it provides guidance on crafting resumes and cover letters, preparing for job interviews, creating LinkedIn profiles, and more

What courses are available?​

As a Soldier On participant, you will be able to access the Soldier On Education Guide, which connects you to over 40 Education Partners.

Our Education Partners offer free or subsidised courses in addition to thousands of free courses available on the IBM SkillsBuild and Udemy platforms.

Some of the Skills Lab resources are designed to be done at your own pace.

If you are interested in completing a course or qualification, please contact the Education Team who can support you in finding the delivery mode that’s right for you. 

What resources are offered?

We have designed a suite of online career readiness resources, including our Defence Students Career Readiness Handbook, online workshops with industry guest speakers, training and education opportunities, traineeships and apprenticeships, mentoring, and networking opportunities. Additionally, we support a work experience immersion program with IBM.

Further online workshops are available including: Boeing presents Interview Skills, What Canberra Institute of Technology have to Offer, Pathways into Hospitality with Compass Group, Bluerydge presents Working in Cyber Security, Security Operations & Same Crooks, Different Context, as well as Pathways into Soldier On.
