The Serving On Program offers transitioning ADF members and veterans the opportunity to contribute through meaningful volunteer work.
Many contemporary veterans face challenges in finding meaningful ways to continue contributing to their community after their service. Soldier On’s Serving On program provides transitioning ADF members and veterans with the opportunity to serve through purposeful volunteer work. Participants gain practical skills, hands-on experience, and ongoing support while making a real difference in communities.
Through Serving On, you can:
• Host social events, peer support activities, and awareness initiatives.
• Assist with data entry, logistics, volunteer communications and other administrative tasks.
• Support local fundraising, represent Soldier On at community events.
• Promote Soldier On in the community through awareness activities, storytelling, and event support.
• Mentor fellow veterans who are new to volunteering.
• Participate in volunteer activities organised through our partners.
• Participate in disaster relief deployments and assist communities in need through our partners.
Serving On also offers a chance to build connections with fellow veterans while contributing to meaningful community initiatives. The program operates nationwide, providing a diverse range of volunteering opportunities for veterans to continue their service in a new way. These opportunities may be to support our own activities or those organised through our partnerships.
Partnership with Australian Red Cross
On 17 June 2026, Soldier On and Australian Red Cross launched a new partnership that will create expanded opportunities for former and transitioning Australian Defence Force personnel to continue serving their communities through meaningful volunteer work. Opportunities available through that partnership will be advertised on this website and via Soldier On’s social media channels. It will initially focus on the ACT, with the plan to roll-out nationally as opportunities with the Australian Red Cross are made available.
Position descriptions will be provided as per the activities and according to the support required.
