Dan “TheRadioDan” Hilliard is the energetic breakfast announcer at Mix 104.9 in Darwin, using his platform to turn radio into real-world impact for the veteran community.
In 2023, Dan launched the now-annual “RAAF to Robbo” challenge – a live, on-air walk from RAAF Base Darwin to Robertson Barracks – together serving members, families, local supporters, and even four-legged participants to raise awareness and funds for Soldier On. What began with 23 participants has since grown to more than 270 people, becoming a much-loved community event in the Northern Territory.
With more than a decade in radio, Dan’s journey began after earlier service as a firefighter and an aspiration to join the ADF. While that path didn’t eventuate, his connection to Defence remains strong, with many friends and family currently serving. Through his advocacy, Dan is passionate about ensuring veterans and their families are supported, particularly through the transition to civilian life.
