Angela Harper

Service Ambassador

Angela joined the Army in 1989 and served as an aviation paramedic at the Army Aviation Centre in Oakey, South-East Queensland and at 5 Aviation Regiment in Townsville, North Queensland for most of her decade serving.

Upon discharge, Angela was already well underway completing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Journalism and Public Relations. Angela went on to work as a journalist in the Canberra Press Gallery for Australian Associated Press through to Deputy Bureau Chief in Brisbane. Since leaving journalism, Angela has worked in Public Affairs.

Angela has a history of supporting charities utilising her experience in the military, media, corporate affairs and marketing. In 2019, Angela approached Soldier On and offered to help mentor those veterans who were transitioning, or had already transitioned, to a civilian career. Angela felt an affinity for the Soldier On transition program, because when she took voluntary discharge in 2001 there was no support transitioning from military life to the corporate world.

Angela said: “It is truly an honour to be a Soldier On Ambassador and I am both humbled and grateful to be able to help veterans start a new chapter in their lives. I have been fortunate enough to have some great mentors to help me reach the heights of my career and I am determined to do the same for those who are brave enough to put up their hand to ask for help and support.”
