Soldier On is a national not-for-profit organisation deeply committed to supporting Australian Defence Force (ADF) veterans and their families through a comprehensive suite of services that promote social wellbeing and community integration. With a presence across major cities, regional centres, and remote areas in Queensland, Soldier On has significantly influenced the local veteran community by establishing programs that facilitate meaningful connections, enhance mental health, and provide crucial employment and educational support. 

Our services are designed to help veterans transition smoothly from military to civilian life and careers and empower their families through community-building activities and targeted support programming. The organisation operates with a dedicated team including staff members who are veterans or service family members themselves and numerous volunteers and ambassadors who tirelessly work across various programs to deliver these services. In Queensland alone, Soldier On supports an expansive community, engaging directly with over 2,970 active Defence members, veterans, and their family members, nationally supporting over 12,300. 

Over the next five years, Soldier On has set a strategic fundraising goal to double revenue to $10,000,000.

The Individual Giving Team forms part of the Fundraising Team within Soldier On and works closely with the Executive Director of Fundraising and the Philanthropy and Partnerships Team.

The Campaigns and Events Manager will play a pivotal role in achieving this goal through the contribution of revenue from individual giving sources such as community fundraising and peer to peer (P2P) events such as our flagship event, March On. The Campaigns Manager is responsible for meeting fundraising targets from community and P2P fundraising.

The Campaigns Manager will advance the mission and objectives of Soldier On by managing key fundraising channels that are core to meeting fundraising goals. This position requires a dynamic individual with a passion for community and P2P fundraising, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven track record in fundraising and relationship management.

The Campaigns Manager reports to the Head of Individual Giving.

Responsibilities:

Revenue Responsibility

  • Work with the Head of Individual Giving to set the budget for the community and P2P fundraising portfolio based on strategic plan targets and actual performance 
  • Ensure Community and P2P fundraising portfolio meets or exceeds financial targets
  • Manage the revenue and expenditure budget for community and P2P fundraising 
  • Provide regular reports and updates to the Head of Individual Giving 

Fundraising Planning and Execution:

  • With the Head of Individual Giving, develop and implement fundraising plans to meet community and P2P income targets.
  • Overall management of community and P2P fundraising donors
  • Overall management and successful delivery of P2P fundraising events such as our flagship event, March On and ensure revenue growth year on year
  • Acquire new community fundraisers through the deployment of proven acquisition strategies using compelling and emotive messaging
  • Project manage community fundraising campaigns and manage the stewardship and retention of community fundraisers
  • Acquire new March On and other P2P donors through the deployment of proven acquisition strategies using compelling and emotive messaging
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising programs and campaigns, making data-driven recommendations for improvement.

Relationship Management:

  • Develop strong donor relationship communications and donor journies to develop long term income from the Community and P2P fundraising portfolios
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with external agencies and suppliers, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather information and develop fundraising collateral.
  • Foster cross-functional relationships within the fundraising team to share best practices and optimise outcomes.

Problem Solving and Analysis:

  • Analyse donor data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Generate detailed reports on Community and P2P fundraising  outcomes and initiatives, providing insights for decision-making.
  • Proactively address challenges and solve problems as they arise, demonstrating initiative and resourcefulness.

Financial Impact and Budget Management:

  • Drive growth in Community and P2P fundraising income through donor acquisition, retention, and maximising donor value
  • Increase the number of Community and P2P donors and net income annually.
  • Manage campaign budgets effectively, ensuring expenditures are within targets and delivering optimal return on investment and donor lifetime value

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Relevant experience in fundraising in the not for profit sector or project management skills and experience from outside of the not for profit sector
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in in one or more of following disciplines:
    • Individual giving with a focus on community and P2P fundraising 
    • Project Management and leadership
    • Project planning
    • Liaison with 3rd parties such as donors, business, government
    • Experience working with external agencies
  • Ability to inspire donors to participate and give
  • Experience delivery of specific projects from inception to completion
  • Alignment with the work of Soldier On, working with veterans and their families
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work closely with donors and strong supporter/donor communications skills
