Peter Nugent

Service Ambassador

Peter is a talented aerospace engineer with demonstrated success in flight test engineering, certification, airworthiness, operations, and project management. During his twenty years of service with the RAAF, he has led teams on overseas operations and loves to project air power in support of the Australian Government. His flight test tours have seen him lead many critical flight test programs that have grown Australia’s capabilities related to stores clearance and air-to-air refuelling in particular.

He has worked closely with the Defence Aviation Safety Authority in crafting smart regulation for both flight test and maintenance organisations. Separately, he has been the architect for Defence’s acquisition of a Space Situational Awareness capability. He is a distinguished graduate of the National Test Pilot School, USA; a Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia, and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Having grown up in regional Queensland known for its socio-economic challenges, Peter joined the Australian Defence Force Academy at age 17, to fund his tertiary education ambitions.

Serving in the military was a positive experience for Peter, where he met his wife, who is still a serving member. His roles took him to Adelaide, Canberra, East Sale and California – If it weren’t for the need for family stability, he might still be in the service today.

Peter was able to have a relatively smooth transition, as he identified the marketable skills that he would be able to take forward to a successful business career outside of the military. Despite planning to return to his home state of Queensland, he now happily calls himself a South Australian. Peter is currently working as Head of Capture and Delivery for AeroPM.
