The Pledge

The Pledge

In recognition of the skills, leadership and training of Australia’s service personnel, take the Pledge and commit to supporting veteran employment.

The Pledge is a symbol of an organisation’s support to the service community, particularly in relation to employment opportunities. While the document is non-binding, it clearly outlines how and what organisations can do to create ‘ex-service friendly’ workplaces and truly recognise the skills and attributes that ex-service men and women, and their families, bring to the Australian workforce.

Organisations are not being asked to promise or hand out jobs to service personnel, or to show favouritism. They are being asked to provide more opportunities, flexibility and to develop a greater understanding of the service community, within each organisation.

“I firmly believe that meaningful employment and education, with support from organisations like Soldier On and industry partners, is an excellent approach to successfully reintegrate veterans back into civilian society after leaving the Defence Force.

Veterans understand that employment is a two way street, and if given the opportunity, they will rise to any challenge you present them. With proper mentoring and coaching, they will prove to be a valuable asset to your organisation.” – ACT Participant
