Our national sporting partnerships provide Defence personnel, contemporary veterans, and their families the opportunity to engage with others, and to access activities and events that ultimately support their connection to the community.
From free tickets to games, opportunities to meet players, behind-the-scenes access on game day, and clinics for kids. Our participants and families are given the chance to get out of the house, connect with others and in many instances, share their stories and experiences with some of the nation’s top athletes.
We can’t thank our sporting partners enough for what they do for the defence community!
‘Our sincerest gratitude for the wonderful opportunity to run onto the ground and toss the coin. I think the kids absolutely loved it!’ – VIC Participant
Our generous sporting partners
St Kilda Football Club
St Kilda Football Club is the home of two great forces: St Kilda spirit and AFL football. Together they do more than each does alone. St Kilda FC fuses elite performance with the creative, progressive and human centred spirit of St Kilda, our birthplace of 1873.
As a proud AFL foundation club in the Victorian Football League (VFL), the Saints have instilled itself as the AFL’s Melbourne bayside club. At its heart, the club engenders an open and inclusive environment where everyone belongs. This is at the centre of the How I Want To Be philosophy where individuals are inspired to be how they want to be and feel welcomed with open arms.
Through its Community Engagement arm – Junction Studio, the Saints are proud to support the amazing work Soldier On do to support our veterans and their families. It is a partnership that the entire club – from the playing group to our staff and board – have embraced.
Greater Western Sydney Giants
The GIANTS are proud Community Partners of Soldier On, working on a range of initiatives in Western Sydney and the ACT to enhance recovery, inspire communities and empower Australians who have suffered physical and psychological injuries while in the Defence forces.
The Wests Tigers are a rugby league team competing in the National Rugby League competition. Formed in 2000 through the merger of two foundation clubs being Balmain Tigers and Western Suburbs Magpies, the club is proud to have the mission statement of Enriching the Lives of Our Community. By partnering with Soldier On, the Wests Tigers are able to fulfill this goal through providing experiences and awareness for Soldier On. There are similarities between how rugby league players and service personnel find themselves in a position where they need to transition into the workforce and other elements of society so this partnership is also effective in that sense.
Based at Concord Oval, but having three home grounds in ANZ Stadium, Leichhardt Oval and Campbelltown Stadium, the club covers a wide region of Sydney and surrounds. This location also means that the Wests Tigers are close to Soldier On’s Sydney base.
Although a young partnership, we have achieved a lot together and look forward to a long relationship.
Australian Ice Hockey League
Now in its 17th season, the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) has established itself as a truly national competition consisting of 8 teams; Adelaide Adrenaline, CBR Brave, Melbourne Ice, Melbourne Mustangs, Newcastle Northstars, Sydney Bears, Sydney Ice Dogs, and Perth Thunder.
As the flagship league for ice hockey in the Southern Hemisphere, the AIHL showcases 116 hockey games annually from April through September. A game of the week is featured on Fox Sports Thursdays.
Teams feature local Australian athletes and up to 4 imports.
‘I would like to thank Soldier On Victoria for giving my family the opportunity to watch one of their favourite footy teams, and also for letting the kids watch their father do the Guard of Honour. We truly thank you.’ – VIC Participant
